Chris Phillips
2011 Chesley Award Winner

Chris Phillips was raised in Austin, Texas, and while attending UT Austin, began writing and performing his own work in scholastic competition.

Once in Los Angeles, Chris worked as a contributing film reviewer for MOVIELINE and OUT magazines, which led to his editorial work at the SoCal publication FRONTIERS from 2001 to 2005.

In January 2010, a musical Chris co-wrote, DREAMS, was selected as one of six new works to take part in the 2010 Disney/ASCAP workshop directed by Stephen Schwartz.

In the summer of 2010, Chris directed a workshop production of his first play, REVOLVER, as part of the CT Tuesdays new works program at Los Angeles’ Celebration Theatre. The following January, REVOLVER received a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre. Also in January 2011, Chris directed a short film adapted from one of the vignettes featured in REVOLVER, “the things i cannot change,” which screened at the Austin Gay & Lesbian Film Festival in September, 2011.

Returning to CT Tuesdays in May 2011, Chris directed the workshop production of his second play, ELYSIAN FIELDS, which was then chosen for presentation at the 2011 New York International Fringe Festival that August.

Chris is currently developing his third play, PIECES, and is proud to report that REVOLVER will receive its world premiere as part of Celebration Theatre's 30th anniversary season in 2013.
